SURVIVOR SHARES LIFE LESSONS LEARNED
An online dating experience that went terribly wrong. Our ‘Sisterhood Share Club’ Contributor, Sarah shares her devastating ordeal in hopes that other women will not find themselves in this situation, stating, “I don’t wish this on anybody.”
Even after taking precautions she thought would keep her safe, Sarah admits she was blindsided, “I thought I was playing it safe by just meeting in public places. That didn’t help a situation that I got myself into.”
Sarah warns, “After having met this person three (3) times in person, in public places, I felt comfortable.” She shares, “It wasn’t until that fourth meeting, I ended up being raped.”
As horrific as this encounter was, one of the greatest challenges was navigating support in the aftermath. Sarah declares, “That was probably one of the worst parts of this whole experience was finding the resources.”
Sarah was eventually directed to a local organization in her area through RAINN, describing both advocacy groups as being, “Leaps and bounds for what I was hoping for support.”
Sexual assault on women happens all too often. We appreciate Sarah for sharing her horrifying experience and life lessons learned so that others may experience a different outcome.
